Last Wednesday, 19 November, the conference “Bridging the seas” took place in Varna, Bulgaria, where WATERVILL was present. Organised by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme and the Bulgarian Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the conference brought together programme stakeholders for reflection, knowledge exchange, and strategic planning within the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, and beyond.
Structured around three round-table discussions, the event gathered speakers and representatives from the Joint Secretariat, municipalities, National Authorities, and project leads, to name only a few.
The second round table, titled “Practical aspects of regional and territorial cooperation”, highlighted how collaboration and testing new ideas can drive innovation and transform local territories. Taking the floor on behalf of the Municipality of Žabljak, WATERVILL lead partner, Mayor Rados Zugić presented the project and outlined Žabljak’s ambition to overcome water challenges and enhance its socio-economic development. He emphasised that WATERVILL is not only a response to pressing local needs, but also an example of how strengthened and newly established partnerships can contribute to a more resilient and forward-looking Mediterranean region.
